Module 1 David Nicholson YM AGM 2012 - PJW - 27-01-2012 David has made available a version of his presentation (including notes) which he gave earlier this week at the Younger Members AGM and seminar. This introduces the concepts of safety / hazard / risk / accident etc. as an introduction to the compulsory module of the examination. RE: Module 1 David Nicholson YM AGM 2012 - pieman31 - 28-01-2012 An interesting read, particularly as it made me think on my answers to the Mod 1 exam last October.... For Q3 I seem to remember rattling off a load of info regarding Tempory Block Working, a legacy of my time in Operations I suspect. I'll stand by my answer in saying that TBW could be used to pass trains through the affected section (not sure about it being quick these days) but I'm not sure I captured the risks associated with this method of working effectively. And, given that 12 marks were set aside for risk identification, it could well explain a fundamental reason for me failing this module. For me then, it seems that I need to concentrate on hazard identification in whole system terms. In this particular instance, I understood the problem (power failure) and knew an affective solution (TBW), I just didn't recognise why TBW is SAFER than say, talking past each defective signal etc. and what risks are associated with the situation before I arrived and more importantly why I arrived at TBW. I think I also answered Questions 5 and 8, but don't recall much about what I wrote..... or maybe I don't want too!! RE: Module 1 David Nicholson YM AGM 2012 - Jerry1237 - 30-01-2012 pieman, Maybe you could request a session on hazard identification, mitigation and risk assessment on one of the M1 days. I am sure it would benefit many. RE: Module 1 David Nicholson YM AGM 2012 - PJW - 07-03-2012 Suggest you try to come to Birmingham at the end of this month having had another go; see http://www.irseexam.co.uk/thread-979-post-3441.html#pid3441 (28-01-2012, 06:51 PM)pieman31 Wrote: An interesting read, particularly as it made me think on my answers to the Mod 1 exam last October....
